The organisations consulted to have mainly been large Australian and multi-national companies and those going through initial public offerings. Although most of his work has been in Australia, he has also worked on assignments in New Zealand and South East Asia including Singapore and Indonesia.

He recently joined GRG as a Director after a 19-year career with Hay Group Australia where he worked with a wide variety of organisations ranging from large multi-nationals to small specialist companies within the banking, financial services, insurance, retail, FMCG, telecommunications, transportation, airlines, construction, mining, resources, engineering, manufacturing, pharmaceutical, professional services, not-for-profit and the public sectors. Allan has worked as a remuneration specialist for over 40 years. For just over half of that time he worked in manufacturing, retail, transport, petrochemical and finance industries, mostly as a remuneration manager.

In 2001, he joined the Melbourne office of Hay Group, a global remuneration consulting firm, as a senior consultant. He worked with large and small listed organisations, private firms, public sector businesses, government departments and benevolent organisations.
